Hello MIBB families!!
The Booster Club hopes everyone is doing well during these trying times. We wanted to let everyone know that we are excited to work with Maximum Sports out of Factoria again this year for winter/spring sports strength and fitness training. Due to the April 26th season start, we will schedule our preseason workouts to include 8 sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7pm to 9pm beginning 2/23 and ending 4/22 (skipping the first week of April for Spring Break). The cost for these sessions is $50 per player. The rest is paid by the Booster Club. Please contact Maximum Sports at their contact below to schedule.
If anyone is interested in getting a jump on their training and conditioning, Maximum Sports has openings available starting in November. They are keeping numbers low to stay in compliance with Covid restrictions, but will be able to train small groups of 12. If there is enough interest, they can open a dedicated MIBB time slot a couple of times per week.
Maximum Sports is running 20% off their normal packages for any MIBB player and if there is enough interest, they will be able to offer a team rate. The normal rates for packages are:
5 Session Package - ($55/session)= $275 (plus tax) = $302.50
10 Session Package - ($46/session)=$460 (plus tax) = $506.00
15 Session Package - ($43.50/session)=$652.50 (plus tax) = $717.75
20 Session Package - ($39.50/session) =$790 (plus tax) = $869.00
40 Session Package- ($38/session)= $1,520 (plus tax) = $1,672.00
There is a year to use these sessions and they are charged when used.
Hopefully, this gives players an option for extra baseball training. They post their philosophy on training baseball players on their website for those who want to take a look.

We are sad to confirm that our 2020 Baseball season is now officially cancelled. With the closure of all Washington State schools for the remainder of this academic year, there will be no sports and no school related activities. We are all saddened to lose this season and know that everyone is feeling deeply disappointed. We wait all year for baseball season and know how tough this is for the players, the coaches, and the families who love to watch. We are especially sad for our seniors, but we will keep you posted as we figure out a way to honor them and send them off to this next exciting stage.
MIHS Baseball will be back again next season...stronger than ever from having endured this difficult and challenging time. Please stay healthy and safe...and as always, GO MI!

Mercer Island - 2019 KingCo Tournament Champions
For the fifth year in a row, the Islanders (KingCo Tourney Champions, 13-9 Overall) reached the State 3A tournament of final sixteen teams in Washington. On Saturday, May 18, however, MI's season came to a close against Capital in a 7 to 1 contest. Capital would move on the state's final four, and KingCo's Lake Washington claimed the State 2019 Title with a 3 to 2 win over Metro's O'Dea. The Islanders tip their cap to the Kangs on a great season and look forward to competing for the KingCo crown and beyond in 2020.
The Islanders will graduate 12 seniors attending college literally coast to coast, including Chapman, Colorado, Ithaca, Oregon, Pacific Lutheran, University of San Diego, University of Washington, Whitman and William & Mary.
The Islanders congratulate the following teammates on achieving post-season honors:
First-Team All KingCo:
P - Liam Dammeier; Sr.
3B - Teague Conder; Sr. (Captain)
OF - Cole Miller; Sr. (Captain)
P - Duke Brotherton; Jr.
1B - William Mulflur; Sr. (Captain)
OF - Nathan Buchan; Soph.
SS - Robert Dreyer; Sr.
C - Max Tanzer; Sr.
The Islander's also congratulate Senior Cole Miller on his selection to the All-State team for Washington.
Congratulations again to the Islander Varsity, JV and C - Team players on another outstanding year for the Maroon and White.
On Monday night, May 6, the Islanders claimed the KingCo tournament championship, with a 10-3 victory over the Saints of Interlake. In a total team victory, MI pounded out 15 hits by 10 players, with Senior Robert Dreyer and Freshman Jack Varney each notching three hits a piece. Junior Duke Brotherton provided a strong outing from the bump, going six and two-thirds innings, allowing just 4 hits with five strike outs. Senior Rohan Tatum secured the last out for the Islanders from the mound.
Coach Dominic Woody and the full MI coaching team of Pete Orgill, Andre Marshall, Bret Derooy, Josh Patterson, Kenny Terhune, Paul Segura and Walt Ingram have now led Mercer Island to three straight KingCo tournament titles.
MI will now advance to the WA State 3A Playoffs, and compete in the final 16 team tournament that begins Saturday, May 18 -- with the Islanders slotted to play locally at Bannerwood Park. Stay tuned for timing and tournament updates.
Mercer Island (6-6 KingCo, 12-8 Overall) advanced to the KingCo championship game on Monday, May 6, with a 5-4 defeat of regular season champion Lake Washington (12-0 KingCo, 19-2 Overall).
In a spirited contest of these perennial rivals, MI jumped out to a 2 run lead in the top of the first, while LW posted a run in the bottom of the third. Behind the stellar pitching of Liam Dammeier, the Islanders maintained their slim 2-1 margin going into the seventh inning. Dammeier dealt for six and one-third innings, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 6. In the top of the seventh, the Islanders posted 3 additional runs behind clutch at bats from Quinn Zakahi (double), Max Tanzer (2-3, 2 RBI), and William Mulfur (2 RBI).
The Islanders would need each of those insurance runs as the State top-rated Kangs stormed back in the bottom of the seventh, to score 3. Reliever Duke Brotherton secured the last the two outs for the save, and the Islanders move on the Championship game on Monday night to face the Interlake Saints.
